What’s the most friendly laid-back affordable place in the world?
An American living in Tokyo seeks someplace to vacation for a month that's totally laid back. I'm tired of always being on the outside, tired of the grind of Tokyo. Where should I go? What's the most relaxed place you know? I've already spent a lot of time in Thailand. Right now I'm planning on South India, my favorite place in the world. Any other ideas?

I love to travel, though I only have an chance to go to another country or continent once or twice a year. What about you other wanderlust travelers? What's your favorite vacation spot? My choice for in the U.S. is Alaska, and for outside the U.S. possibly the Scottish Highlands or Thailand.
