Ko Samui ? Crown Jewel of Thailand tourist spots

A lot of us tend to underestimate the grandeur, splendour and majesty of the many beautiful islands of the country of Thailand. While we are on this topic it is unfitting not to remember the magical contribution that Ko Samui makes to the tourist attractions of Thailand. It plays its part perfectly providing every vacationer with a valid reason to return again and again.

This island, Thailand’s third largest, is located approximately 35 kms. from the town of Surat Thani and offers commuters an international airport, which is humble in its design and yet boasts of a uniqueness that is yet to be matched. This is the perfect place to land giving you a subtle hint of a vacation spot out of a fairytale world. Transportation within the island is not a problem. Samui is known for its Pickup taxis that will take you around the island, and are easy to come by during the day and at night. You can also rent yourself a jeep or motorbike at an extremely reasonable price, if you want to explore the island for yourself; highly recommended by any tourist.

We can’t forget one of the major reasons anyone would want to visit Thailand. Of course, it’s the sprawling Thailand beaches, giving all tourists the opportunity to soak up the sun. Ko Samui offers no less to its tourists. Some of the better known Thailand beaches in Ko Samui are Chaweng Beach, Lamai Beach and Mae Nam Beach, each providing the tourist with different experiences and activities, but all providing the same warm Thai hospitality.

The tourist attractions in Thailand are also its various Thailand festivals. In Ko Samui, just like any other part of Thailand, they celebrate, in addition to New Year’s Day and the Chinese New Year, the Thai New Year. It is known is Songkran, a word derived from Sanskrit, and is celebrated every year from 13th April to 15th April. Loy Krathong is another unique Thailand festival held in Ko Samui.

How To Pick Those Exotic Vacation Spots

I'm often asked how I find my 'exotic' places for vacations. It's actually pretty simple.

You can do it, too.

Basically, I stumble upon them. That's my secret.

The real key however, is that I always have my antennas up. I look, I read, I surf, I listen. Then most of the time, something just clicks and things fall into place. There's no requirement for in-depth study. The trick is in keeping up the antenna.

First, look at the Sunday paper Travel section or supplement. This section is always chocked full of destinations, travel specials, deals and tips. Make yourself a nice cup of coffee or tea, sit in a quiet spot and scan the paper. Yes, just scan it.

Pay particular attention to the tiny classified ads that pepper the edges of the pages. These are usually low overhead, low cost tour agencies or consolidators that have great offerings major agencies do not. Most of them focus on specialty niches such as Scandinavia or South America. Most will also have website to poke around and all will have a telephone number for you to call if you want to talk to anyone. Best yet, most of them will list destinations you never even thought of . . . how do you think I decided to go to Rarotonga and found a great airfare deal to get there?

The big full page ads are worth a scan, too. While most of them are placed by airlines or top travel agencies, take the time to look at them. I rarely book travel this way but every now and then the offer is too good to pass up. I got a United Airlines package to Australia a couple of years ago that I doubt I will ever see offered again.

As you scan look for key words to catch your attention. Words like 'special,' 'deal,' 'limited time' or 'book until' will make you stop scanning and read.

If you do this for a few weeks you'll be amazed at what you start to notice. Queuing up your brain to recognize deals and destinations comes with this simple scanning of these pages each week.

Another great source of information is your favorite magazines. As you flip through pages look for ad campaigns. Cities engage in tourist campaigns. Regions engage in tourist campaigns. Entire countries engage in tourist campaigns. Scan the pages for those glossy, colorful ads and just note what they are touting. Some campaigns I noticed myself this week are Napa Wine Country Fall Tours, Canadian Cities Weekend Getaways, Discover Thailand, and San Diego Tourism.

Another resource is your radio. What do you hear on the radio? Is your favorite station giving away Hawaiian getaways? Are they handing out airplane tickets to caller number 100? Where are they heading? Are you filing them away in the back closet of your mind? Anything can be a source of quick information.

And, its fun to do!

So now that you are accumulating a library card index in your brain of destinations, prices and specials, what do you do with it?

You either play it safe or take a risk.

What are the must-see tourist spots in Thailand?

I'm heading over to Thailand for about a week in December. (I'm an American Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines.) I wish I had more time to spend there, but I don't have all that many vacation days.

What are some places/sites to see while I'm there? (Keep in mind my limited time-table!)

Thanks a lot!

Cheap vacation spots

In this world of heavy costs, if one wants to spend his holidays overseas in some cheap amount of money, he has to select an area of the world to visit rather than visiting top ten vacation spots, which are located so distant from each other. Now let us discuss some of the top and relatively cheap vacation-zones of the world.

The US vacation zone first. It will be cheap for someone, who wants to visit USA if he includes states like Hawaii, Vegas Florida, California, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Colorado, and Los Angeles. In this stretch of the US vacation Spots one may be able to enjoy the beauty of excellent landscapes of mountains, rivers, desert and forest as well. And also he will be able to enjoy the man-made beauties of some excellent monuments and buildings like Tower Stratosphere, Hollywood, Disney Landand Bear Mountain Bridge etc.

The Second cheap vacation spot comes to the mind is the European Union Territory. This Territory must include Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark and Netherlands as the vacation spots. London and Paris are two cities where the vacation can be thoroughly enjoyed. River Tames, Big Ben, Eiffel Tower are the special spices to these two cities. Greece and Italy are two countries with lots and lots of historical monuments. Cities of Venice, Rome, and Athens are really worthy places to visit, located in those two countries! If one wants to spend a beautiful vacation span with snows the Switzerland is the best place for him. Three cities Lucerne, Zurich, and Berne have nice holiday spots and resorts!

The SAAF is another nice place to visit if one wants to spend his vacation is cheap rates. The SAAF area includes countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan. Vacation Spots Where You Could Still Get More for Your Dollar

I know you've been dying to take that long-planned trip to Europe where you can try out your new skis on the Swiss alps, marvel at the impressive cathedrals in Italy, take a tour of the ancient ruins in Greece, and maybe even meet the Queen in London (although you'll need a whole lot of luck for the last one). This pesky little thing called the economy however has decided to spoil your vacation plans. With the weakening dollar, a European trip is now a lot more expensive and way beyond your budget.

Don't store your suitcase away just yet though. While it is all too real that the US currency is on a steady downward trend, there are still a number of vacation spots where you can get more for your buck. They may not be quite as grandiose as Europe but they're just as enjoyable and may even have more in store for the adventurous traveler.

First up is Argentina. With this destination, you won't have to miss Europe as much. Breath-taking landscapes, beautiful architecture, vibrant cosmopolitan lifestyle in the capital, and an ardent love for football, Argentina is as close to Europe as you can get. The country's currency suffered a traumatic collapse in 2001 but has recovered in large measure since then. The dollar still enjoys a strong value here though and travelers can definitely have a blast since dining and accommodations cost almost half as much as in the West.

For more of Latin American atmosphere, you can also visit Costa Rica. This country offers pristine beaches, rivers, and rainforests; certainly a welcome relief from the harried rush of the metropolis. For nature lovers, Costa Rica is a well-preserved haven. This is one of the best places to go snorkeling, rafting, kayaking, or to just simply be in awe of earth's natural wonders. Costa Rica used to be a well-kept secret among backpackers and biologists but it has recently been receiving a much larger influx of travelers.

Right in the heart of Europe is another weak dollar-friendly travel destination. I'm talking about the Czech Republic. Yeah I know, we're supposed to veer away from ultra expensive euro territories but this vacation spot happens to fit our itinerary. Although the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, it still hasn't adopted the euro as its official currency. Prague, the capital, is famous for its historic Gothic castles and is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Tucked away in the Czech countryside are a variety of spas, thanks to the abundance of natural springs and mud. Forget the overpriced spa treatments in the US; you can avail of a whole body massage with aromatherapy in Czech Republic for as low as $35.

Southeast Asia is another choice destination if you want to get more for your dollar. One of the most popular travel spots here is Thailand where you can find a conglomeration of panoramic sceneries, bustling nightlife, historic temples, and even royalty. The country is also well-known for its flavorful cuisines which has widely influenced even the Western culinary scene. What better way to discover the authentic taste of Thai dishes than to immerse yourself in this fascinating country.

Vietnam is also a good choice if you want to further explore Southeast Asia. The rural scenes in this country remain virtually untouched, still displaying their idyllic charms in the midst of fast-paced modernization. The natural reserves in Vietnam are also worth exploring while first-class hotels in the capital can be enjoyed for half the price of their US counterparts.
