Ko Samui – Crown Jewel of Thailand tourist spots
A lot of us tend to underestimate the grandeur, splendour and majesty of the many beautiful islands of the country of Thailand. While we are on this topic it is unfitting not to remember the magical contribution that Ko Samui makes to the tourist attractions of Thailand. It plays its part perfectly providing every vacationer with a valid reason to return again and again.
This island, Thailandâs third largest, is located approximately 35 kms. from the town of Surat Thani and offers commuters an international airport, which is humble in its design and yet boasts of a uniqueness that is yet to be matched. This is the perfect place to land giving you a subtle hint of a vacation spot out of a fairytale world. Transportation within the island is not a problem. Samui is known for its Pickup taxis that will take you around the island, and are easy to come by during the day and at night. You can also rent yourself a jeep or motorbike at an extremely reasonable price, if you want to explore the island for yourself; highly recommended by any tourist.
We canât forget one of the major reasons anyone would want to visit Thailand. Of course, itâs the sprawling Thailand beaches, giving all tourists the opportunity to soak up the sun. Ko Samui offers no less to its tourists. Some of the better known Thailand beaches in Ko Samui are Chaweng Beach, Lamai Beach and Mae Nam Beach, each providing the tourist with different experiences and activities, but all providing the same warm Thai hospitality.
The tourist attractions in Thailand are also its various Thailand festivals. In Ko Samui, just like any other part of Thailand, they celebrate, in addition to New Yearâs Day and the Chinese New Year, the Thai New Year. It is known is Songkran, a word derived from Sanskrit, and is celebrated every year from 13th April to 15th April. Loy Krathong is another unique Thailand festival held in Ko Samui.

Vacation Spots Where You Could Still Get More for Your Dollar
I know you've been dying to take that long-planned trip to Europe where you can try out your new skis on the Swiss alps, marvel at the impressive cathedrals in Italy, take a tour of the ancient ruins in Greece, and maybe even meet the Queen in London (although you'll need a whole lot of luck for the last one). This pesky little thing called the economy however has decided to spoil your vacation plans. With the weakening dollar, a European trip is now a lot more expensive and way beyond your budget.
Don't store your suitcase away just yet though. While it is all too real that the US currency is on a steady downward trend, there are still a number of vacation spots where you can get more for your buck. They may not be quite as grandiose as Europe but they're just as enjoyable and may even have more in store for the adventurous traveler.
First up is Argentina. With this destination, you won't have to miss Europe as much. Breath-taking landscapes, beautiful architecture, vibrant cosmopolitan lifestyle in the capital, and an ardent love for football, Argentina is as close to Europe as you can get. The country's currency suffered a traumatic collapse in 2001 but has recovered in large measure since then. The dollar still enjoys a strong value here though and travelers can definitely have a blast since dining and accommodations cost almost half as much as in the West.
For more of Latin American atmosphere, you can also visit Costa Rica. This country offers pristine beaches, rivers, and rainforests; certainly a welcome relief from the harried rush of the metropolis. For nature lovers, Costa Rica is a well-preserved haven. This is one of the best places to go snorkeling, rafting, kayaking, or to just simply be in awe of earth's natural wonders. Costa Rica used to be a well-kept secret among backpackers and biologists but it has recently been receiving a much larger influx of travelers.
Right in the heart of Europe is another weak dollar-friendly travel destination. I'm talking about the Czech Republic. Yeah I know, we're supposed to veer away from ultra expensive euro territories but this vacation spot happens to fit our itinerary. Although the Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, it still hasn't adopted the euro as its official currency. Prague, the capital, is famous for its historic Gothic castles and is considered as one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Tucked away in the Czech countryside are a variety of spas, thanks to the abundance of natural springs and mud. Forget the overpriced spa treatments in the US; you can avail of a whole body massage with aromatherapy in Czech Republic for as low as $35.
Southeast Asia is another choice destination if you want to get more for your dollar. One of the most popular travel spots here is Thailand where you can find a conglomeration of panoramic sceneries, bustling nightlife, historic temples, and even royalty. The country is also well-known for its flavorful cuisines which has widely influenced even the Western culinary scene. What better way to discover the authentic taste of Thai dishes than to immerse yourself in this fascinating country.
Vietnam is also a good choice if you want to further explore Southeast Asia. The rural scenes in this country remain virtually untouched, still displaying their idyllic charms in the midst of fast-paced modernization. The natural reserves in Vietnam are also worth exploring while first-class hotels in the capital can be enjoyed for half the price of their US counterparts.

Bankok – Thailand Hot Spots
BANKOK - SOME FACTS
If you visit any destination in South East Asia, it may be imperative that you pass through Bangkok. Bangkok has a strange nature of evoking extreme sense of likes and dislikes amongst visitors. A few seem to loathe it while many others swear that it is the most wonderful, fascinating and exciting places on earth. Actually, Bangkok tends to be what a particular visitor wants it to be. Bangkok is a picture post-card haven with beautiful pagodas, pagodas and some of the world's finest hotels. Bangkok's renowned for it's nightlife in the Orient with an opportunity to savor some of world's most unique cuisines. Bangkok is a favorite and best shopping destination in South East Asia.
Bangkok inhabitants are known as Thais and their friendly ways would flatter the snootiest traveler. Bangkok is all in all, a load of fun and games and a great way to enjoy a civilized vacation. Thailand's history emerges from the Bronze Age, whereas Bangkok, the capital is a young city founded in 1782. With a population of around 6 million, 50% of them are under 30. Bangkok lies on the banks of the river "Chao Phraya", a wonderful working waterway full of sampans, wide variety of boats and rice barges.
Bangkok is a beautiful mix of the old and the new, the modern and the ancient evident from its skyline that comprises of Buddhist temples (wats), luxury hotels, high-rise office buildings and shopping malls making it a kaleidoscope. Under the thin veneer of new found Western influence you will find that the Thais are not devoid of traditional values. The sights of ubiquitous street food sellers, monks on morning begging rounds and women stringing jasmine blossoms on thread near wats will display the cultural heritage of Thailand that is not lost in the arc lights of modernity.
MAJOR ATTRACTIONS IN BANKOK
Bangkok is packed with more attractions per square mile than any other city in the world. Despite the crowds, the architecture and the attractions are worth the effort to travel and see. On the top of the list would be Wat Phra Khao and the Grand Palace for sightseeing for half a day. This can include the National Museum and the Wat Pho. Chinatown, Bangkok's major attractions has a unique traditional life untouched by modern civilization and could be fascinating. Historical sites like Rattanakosin Island (central point when Bangkok was founded) are also worth visiting. The main symbolic places of Bangkok are Wat Arun on the Chao Phraya River.
Cross the Chao Phraya to reach Thonburi and you can tour the klongs to appreciate the heritage and culture of the country of Thailand. The Vimanmek Palace, restored by Queen Sirikit, made of golden teak emphasizes the exquisite taste and oriental splendor of ancient Thai royal life.
TOURING AROUND BANKOK
The easier way to explore the country would be put up base in Bangkok and explore the region by using the interesting and unusual daytrips.
Ayutthaya & Bang Pa-In: This probably is the most popular day trip from Bangkok and takes you to visit the Ayutthaya (A-you-ta-ya), the previous and old capital of Thailand, about 50 miles north of Bangkok, the current capital. Ayutthaya has served as the second capital of the Kingdom of Siam for over 400 years. Travellers in the past have described the glittering palaces, temples and Buddhist images depicting it as one of the most beautiful cities on the planet. In an unfortunate event the Burmese burned the glories of this city in 1767. In Ayutthaya, you could hire a tuk tuk along with an English-speaking guide to take you around the celebrated temples (cost could be in the range of 250 bahts). You can also hire a long-tail boat for cruising the 12-mile Chao Phraya River trip that ends at the king's summer palace at Bang Pa-In (300 bahts).
Many such trips are available to be taken. Bangkok never ceases to amaze and so giving an approximate time frame of the trip becomes difficult. You could get there, relax, and see for yourself what Bangkok has to offer. May be you could go back when you have more time, or to see the rest of it. The magnetism of Bangkok is such that despite having been there many a time, travelers tend to come back.
